Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
